Tánaiste to speak at “2011 Ireland Funds Conference”
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore T.D.,
will address the plenary meeting of the “2011 Ireland Funds
Conference” in Dromoland Castle today.
The Ireland Funds are a major source of assistance to Irish based projects promoting peace, culture, education and charity. The meeting will bring together representatives of the Fund from over 12 countries. Many of its members are also supporting Ireland through their contribution to the Global Irish Network. The Government has announced that a second Global Irish Forum will take place in Dublin Castle on 7-8 October 2011.
Speaking to the Conference, the Tánaiste said:
“Since the establishment of the Funds, you have seen and contributed to momentous change in Ireland. You were there at the beginning, when many thought the challenges posed by the troubles were insurmountable. Your work gave hope to divided communities across Northern Ireland. You were there to welcome and support the new Northern Ireland Executive when it brought its investment message to the US.”
“The Ireland Funds have worked over many years, with successive
Governments, building successful strategic partnerships within the
wider global Irish family.”
“Each and every one of you gathered here today is an extraordinary resource for Ireland and I hope that we can continue to turn to you for your wisdom and your leadership as we seek to regain our reputation and rebuild our economy.”

Note for Editors:
The Ireland Funds is an independent foundation which provides grant assistance to Irish-related projects promoting peace, culture, education and charity. The Ireland Funds was established in 1987, following the merger of two existing organisations, the Ireland Fund and the American Irish Foundation. With the merger, it became one of the world’s largest private organisations funding projects throughout the island of Ireland. The American Ireland Fund (AIF) represents the Ireland Funds in the United States.
The mission of the Funds is to be the largest worldwide network of people of Irish ancestry and friends of Ireland dedicated to raising funds to support programmes of peace and reconciliation, arts and culture, education and community development throughout the island of Ireland. The Funds most recently announced their Promising Ireland Campaign which aims to raise $100 million by the end of 2013. The current President and CEO Worldwide Ireland Funds is Mr. Kieran McLoughlin and the Chairperson of the American Ireland Fund is Ms. Loretta Brennan Glucksman.Top
