Minister Creighton praises EU contribution to cross-border cooperation
The Minister for State for European Affairs, Ms. Lucinda Creighton T.D., will today visit the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre with the President of the European Parliament, H.E. Jerzy Buzek.
Speaking in advance of the event, the Minister said:
“I very much look forward to welcoming the President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, at today’s celebration of the EU’s Contribution to Cross-Border Cooperation at the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre.”
“The enormous contribution made by the EU to the promotion of peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland is a story that too often goes untold. I am delighted that President Buzek will today experience first-hand the excellent work carried out with the support of EU funding by groups hailing from communities North and South.”

Mr. Jerzy Buzek was elected as President of the European Parliament in June 2009. President Buzek’s visit to the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre takes place during the course of his two-day official visit to Ireland on 11-12 July.
Since the establishment of PEACE I in 1994, the successive PEACE programmes have provided more than €1 billion for peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland and the six border counties. The combined total of funding, including matching funding from the two member states, available under the PEACE III and INTERREG IVA Programmes for eligible projects during the period 2007-2013 is €589 million.
