11th NGO Forum
The 2010 DFA NGO Forum on Human Rights took place in The Convention Centre Dublin on Friday, 10 December 2010. This year’s theme was: ‘Ireland’s examination under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism of the United Nations Human Rights Council on 6 October 2011’.
The Forum opened with a panel discussion to introduce and explain the Universal Periodic Review process. The introductory session was then followed by three parallel workshops. The first workshop focused on civil and political rights in the context of Ireland’s UPR examination, the second workshop focused on economic, social and cultural rights. The third workshop considered the international dimension of the UPR process, including Ireland’s input to the process through its foreign policy.
The workshop discussions provided an opportunity for a full exchange of views on Ireland’s UPR examination with the participation of interested Irish NGOs, as well as academics, government officials and international NGO representatives.
