FBR Documents Required
It is important that you note the following information in relation to the documentary requirements for Foreign Births Registration
Each applicant for Foreign Births Registration is required to produce sufficient documentation including original birth, marriage and death certificates and other relevant records for him/herself and the parent, (and grandparent, if relevant) through whom citizenship is claimed to confirm the applicant's entitlement to Irish citizenship.
Irish Birth, Marriage and Death certificates may be obtained from the General Registrar's Office. For more detailed information please click here.
Along with your application form, a checklist of documentary requirements will also print. You must sign and date this checklist, and submit it with a hard copy of your application to the appropriate office.
The documentary evidence listed on this checklist must also be submitted with your application. The Department reserves the right to request further documentation in support of an application for Foreign Births Registration. Please note that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade also reserves the right to check the authenticity of all documentation submitted.
If you are applying to one of our Missions overseas you are advised to also check their website for any details of further documentation which may be required by those offices.
Please ensure that before you send your application form to the relevant office that you have had Section E ‘Certificate of Identity’ on the application form completed by one of the witnesses listed. It is important to note that the applicant/ declarant (parent/guardian)must be personally known to the witness who signs Section E of the application form or must be identified to the witness by a third party who is personally known to the applicant/declarant (parent/guardian) and the witness and that you have included the relevant signed photographs.
It is also important to note that Section D of the application form must be signed in the presence of the witness.
Applications which are not in order will be returned to the applicant.
